Ann & Robert H. Lurie Tower
This building is a place for department of music, theatre & dance. It is in memory of Rober H. Lurie, inside of this building there are sixty bells. Outside the building, it is looks exactly like a guitar string gather head. In this school, there are diverse education in drama directing, instrument playing, costume and stage light designing, most of all, this school has monthly art performance on stage to be open to the public. This building is a gift to Rober and Ann Lurie Family Foundation. It was built on the design of Charles Moore and Arthur Anderson.
University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA) is a large collection of eastern art including Japan, Chinese art, African art, American art from 19th century to now. This is a place inspired by a multi-cultural art collaboration, where sculpture, painting, photography and calligraphy from Japan and China are well collected. I did not got chance to visit inside of this museum, but next time I must take a tour to visit this museum to have a better taste of contemporary art, especially want to see how art greatly influence the communication and expressive way of artists from diverse backgrounds to influence public standard artistic understanding. I also expect to hear a few visitors who will give seminar at this museum in next few years.
Make a tour across the north campus, I was guided to my friend Yang's office building. He works in mechanical and electrical engineering central building. At the bottom of this building, it is amazed to walk through a long corridor where several doors were closed. He told me on the ground floor, there was a laboratory where vacuum tube technology first invented. It is back in 1910's, from that time, this laboratory has gathered a group of researcher in vacuum tube testing in the electronic and vacuum tubes. From that time to 1924, the technology has seen tremendous improvement which significantly enhance the technology radio communication and electronic wireless telephony.
At this square, I took a chance to talk to a student association who establish in University of Michigan campus culture communication. They like to raise the awareness of undergraduate students examination pressure modulation. She told us that due to the high tuition for this public school, some of them have to work a part-time job at the same time studying at school. Their social activity during the weekend open hour is usually include introduction of social club events, like Bowling, paint-nite outdoor event, student association hiking outdoor event, as well as planet climbing club for a two day trip to nearby provincial park for climb. One girl standing there looks quite friendly, I asked her what is your objective here, she told me she gives free hug to other students. Mmmh, this is a kind of behaviour arts which I encountered at shanghai people's square. I told her I would like to exchange a hug with you. She smiled to hear that I just left say goodbye to my student life, and wait for a transit to the next stage of life. She gave me a warm hug, with a about 3 to 5 seconds. She told me that, she wish to be graduating sooner and start make a living as an socialist after school. I wish her a good luck.
